The Science Group meets on the first Thursday of each month. We have vacancies in our group for any members to join us for interesting, stimulating activities concerned with nature, space, our health, new discoveries and anything of interest in the news. Since Science affects all aspects of our lives we try and cover all aspects of the natural world.

Following the sad passing of our dear leader, Monica Dyer, we now meet at the Quinborne Centre on the 1st Thursday of the month at 1.30 - 3.30. The group agreed to continue with inviting guest speakers, reviewing current science news stories, giving short presentations ourselves on a variety of topics, reviewing science books that members have read, and visiting places of scientific interest.

In 2024/25 we had three external speakers from Birmingham University, who gave us presentations. In May 2025, eleven members of the group went to Lichfield to visit the Erasmus Darwin house and museum. We had a guided tour of the house, with a presentation on the life and impact of Erasmus Darwin. In June 2025 some of the group visited Birmingham University to view an exhibition of the work of Ph.D students, and to invite some of them to give a presentation to the group on their research. Five students accepted our invitation to talk to us in 2025/26.

You are very welcome to come along and see if you'd like to join us.
