Sad news about Jo Newman (a message from Chris McDonald)
Although Jo hadn't been a member for some years some of you will recall him. He was our Speakers Secretary at one stage.
Chris wanted us to let members know that Jo has recently passed away.
Sad news about Jan Robins (a message from Sue Hendry)
Sue Hendry has let us know that Jan's daughter-in-law contacted her on 10 June to say Jan died last Tuesday after being ill with stage 4 lung cancer. Jan was a long standing member and was a regular supporter of the Garden Group and loved her own garden with its myriad of pots. She came to 6 meetings in 2023 and then, initially due to her dislike of driving to new places and later to being unwell, her attendance became more sporadic. She was able to come to the first two meetings in 2025. She had been well supported by her family and by Birmingham Hospice. There will not be a funeral but anyone wishing to remember Jan is asked to send a donation to Birmingham Hospice.
Focus Art Club
A local group of visually impaired adults have been meeting at Focus Birmingham in Harborne for the last 23 years. We meet once a fortnight on a Thursday morning from 10am to 12 noon. Currently we have eight volunteers to help our members get the most out of their art activities. The volunteers include 3 former art teachers. Our members work individually in three main areas, Drawing and Painting , Pottery, Textiles including weaving collage , knitting and sewing. Two of the former art teachers are retiring at Christmas and we are looking for former teachers with experience in art activities who would enjoy coming along to a lively and enthusiastic group.

The Birmingham Settlement. This message is from Eileen Waddington.
A group of us get together on alternate Mondays, for a walk at Edgbaston Reservoir. The walk is organised by Birmingham Settlement, in conjunction with Age UK. The Settlement is trying to increase the number of older people involved. It is such a lovely event, a healthy walk around the Reservoir - not too taxing for beginners or non-walkers and free tea or coffee before and after! I think some of our u3a members might be interested and might gain some benefit from the social aspect. You would be very welcome to come along. For further information please contact by clicking on this link, email Eileen.
