We meet approximately monthly but it could be more or less often, depending on what is available. Members take turns to organise an outing.
Visits to both high and low culture, accessible by local transport, train and car share may be included.. This could include venues such as theatre, art gallery, cinema, historic building, etc. The type of event might be a play, exhibition, dance, opera, concert, film, talk, etc.
If you would like to be on our email mailing list, please contact one of the group coordinators Sue or Eileen using the links above. You will then receive information about any planned outing and you can decide if you would like to be included on that occasion.
This group was set up in October 2025. During that month, Eileen Waddington arranged two visits to the Council House. Councillor Martin Brookes OBE, the independent Councillor for Harborne and Edgbaston welcomed each group. Martin showed the group around the Grade II* listed building. Everyone was taken up the grand staircase and shown the historic rooms, including the Banqueting Suite
The Lord Mayor, Zafar Iqbal, joined the group for refreshments and entertained us with stories about his life and work. He also welcomed us into the Lord Mayors chambers. After this we were able to sit in the semi circular Council Chamber while Martin told us more about the workings of the Council.

Also in October members of the group also attended St Phillips Cathedral for a free recital. Alexandra Burstow sang and Thomas Howell played the piano. Both are students at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
In November members enjoyed a visit to Highbury Hall in Moseley where they had a free guided tour. The building is remarkable for its Venetian Gothic architecture and its wealth of craftsmanship and decoration. The group also heard about its close association with Joseph Chamberlain and his family.
